Why adopt an adult cat?

1.)    Our adult cats have all been temper tested and in choosing an adult cat you can pick the friendly feline with
the personality that best fits your family's lifestyle.  If a family were to ask us to place them with a cat who likes to
be held, we can direct them to various adult cats who have proven themselves as good lap/holding cats; kittens
are less predictable in this way.

2.)    All of our adult cats have already been handled, trained to use the litter box, and to use a scratching post.
Most of our adult cats, having been in foster care, know simple commands like "Get off…" or "No."

Which cats need homes the most?

Of course we'd love to see our special needs cats find homes; however, we wish to place all of our rescues in
loving homes, no matter if they're young or old, big or small, special needs or not.  If you'd like to inquire about
giving a special home to one of our special needs cats, please email Julie at: felinerescuemission@yahoo.com

If a cat used to live outside, will it use the litter box?

Cats are naturally attracted to the litter box and will use it no matter what their living conditions prior to being
adopted.  Since our animals are in foster homes before being placed up for adoption, we know for certain that they
are able to use a litter box before entering your home.

Can I have a cat if I have allergies?

Ultimately this is up to you.  Many people who have allergies to cats control this problem with over the counter anti-
allergy medication, and can take precautions like keeping their cat out of their bedroom or off their furniture.
Frequent hand washing and not allowing your feline friend to cuddle up next to your face can also reduce allergic
reactions to cats in your home.  Here is a story we received from one of our adopters.  "…just wanted to tell you
that having slow, steady exposure to my cat has created more tolerance to cat dander overall in my family.  Before
adopting our cats, my father and brother were unable to even visit a cat owner's home without having serious
allergic reactions including asthma attacks; however, since my cats came here to live, my father and brother have
a sort of immunity built up and are able to tolerate cats much easier now… hand washing and keeping them out of
their bedrooms helps…"  Although this story may not be the case in your house, many people who have allergies
do choose to own cats and live many happy years with them as their companions.

Why should I adopt a kitten from you when I can get a "free" kitten?

We've heard various statements such as "I can get a kitten for free" or, "I'll go elsewhere because your kittens are
too expensive."  Here are a few prices for you to compare before you go elsewhere to adopt.  Please review.  If
you were to get a kitten "for free," you would have to pay for the following expenses at the animal hospital of your
choice:

Spay(female) - $194

Neuter(male) - $91

FIV/FeLV - $45

Rabies Vaccine - $20

Distemper Vaccine - $30 (x 3 = $90)

Profender Dewormer - $18

Microchipping - $40.00

Total for Female: $407

Total for Male: $304

(*Cost does not include $40 office visit charge, applied to each time cat is seen for any procedure)

Since the Feline Rescue Mission is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, special prices are allotted for
kittens going through our agency.  The prices listed below are what your adoption fee covers when you adopt a
kitten from the Feline Rescue Mission:

Spay/Neuter - $80

FIV/FeLV blood test - $25

Rabies Vaccination - $10

Distemper Vaccination - $4 each (x 3 = $12)

Profender Dewormer - $9

Microchipping - $15

1 Month of food/litter - $10

Total Cost for Feline Rescue Mission Kitten: $151

Your Adoption Fee: $150

When our adopters pay $150 to adopt a kitten from us, the money goes directly into paying for the cost of getting
a kitten ready to be adopted.  Adoption fees are to cover the care of the cat being adopted and nothing more.
